Designer Spotlight: Elite Events & Floral Renaissance

Nov 21 2011

Marquee is thrilled to welcome Elite Events and Floral Renaissance as our Designer Spotlight. Floral and event designer Michael Akila and Event Specialist Kathie Millen transformed our Inspiration Area into a vibrant reflection of holiday flair. Featuring our fruitwood stained custom vineyard tables with a coordinating chivari chair and accenting with deep rich colors of eggplant, gold and bronze, the table scape is absolutely jaw dropping. We asked for over the top and this team delivered. The gold velvet high back banquettes and the gold saturn chargers are beautiful accents to the rustic elegance theme that this amazing team team created. It is worth a trip to our showroom to see for yourself and get inspired.

Kathie Millen and Michael Akila are a creative team that does not disappoint. Thank you for putting our Marquee team into the holiday spirit!

Texas Monthly BBQ Festival

Nov 03 2011

The Long Center will never be the same.
The 2011 Texas Monthly BBQ Festival summoned over 20 Pit Bosses from across Texas and they forever infused the wonderful smell of BBQ into the hallowed pillars of our performing arts center.

BBQ fans from as far away as Ithaca, New York cast their votes for Best Brisket, Best Sausage, Best Beef Ribs and Best Pork Ribs. The results will be in a future edition of Texas Monthly Magazine.

BBQ fan Syed Rehman said “So I flew into Dallas from Ithaca and then drove down for the fest. My vegetarian sister-in-law got me the BBQ t shirt because she knows how much I love BBQ. I will be back in 2013!”

Designer Spotlight: The Simplifiers

Oct 10 2011

We’re thrilled to have Mary Baird-Wilcock of The Simplifiers as guest designer for our Inspiration Area. Mary put her skills as event planner (and undercover superhero) to work alongside The Inviting Pear to transform our space into a wedding befitting a Superhero!

The Simplifiers

“When The Simplifiers were asked to design the showroom for Marquee, we knew we wanted to do something super different, super special and SUPER FUN! What better way to achieve all three, then do a superhero themed wedding!!?!

Our clients are always looking for something out of the norm and non-traditional. So, why not have a superhero themed wedding, that tickles your inner child’s fancy and gives you a good reason to wear a red cape on your big day? After all planning a wedding takes someone with superhero talents to juggle all the details. (ahem, The Simplifiers to the rescue!)

We love the fact that we can walk into Marquee’s 70,000+ square foot warehouse and find design elements to create this very unexpected palette of pop colors of cherry reds, aqua blue and black/white to make a stylish, hip, modern and fun wedding without going overboard. From the S-shaped serpentine dining tables to the customizable glow furniture for the bar to the ultra sleek lounge furniture, we rely on Marquee for their amazing selection of rental items to pull the complete look together.

I say, “rules are made to be broken when it comes to wedding planning.”

Go for something different, quirky, fun and most importantly, TRUE TO YOU AND YOUR FIANCE! Hire The Simplifiers as your wedding planners, and we’ll be your undercover superheroes that bring your ideas to life!

Both Dani and I left thinking, “man, I really want a superhero wedding, now!!”

Thank you Mary and The Simplifiers!

Designer Spotlight: CLINK

Sep 12 2011

This month, we welcome Gina Whittington as guest designer for our Inspiration Area. As Creative Director at CLINK, Gina is always looking for the next trend in fabric, color, glassware, chargers, layout design, you name it… she wants something different. She is attentive to her clients’ true vision and always creates memorable and beautiful events. We truly admire her and her abundant talent and appreciate our partnership with her and the CLINK team.

Here are Gina’s thoughts on her design.

“CLINK prides itself on offering designs that are true to our clients’ visions. For the Marquee inspiration area we wanted to showcase a look that was elegant, fashion-forward and minimalist. The rosette look is huge right now. It’s on linens, cakes, wedding gowns and even invitations. We coupled that with the “colorless” palette that is seasonless and can be used indoors or out. Nude, cashmere and blush! We chose to decorate the table with oversized paper blooms to create a romantic feel, while still being budget friendly. You will see rosette chair ties on our cocktail tables and chairs. This is a new twist in table fashions, and we are hoping the look will catch on!”

We hope so too! We’ll feature Gina’s design throughout September and hope you can drop by and see her beautiful work in person.

Thank you Gina – you are welcome back anytime!

Designer Spotlight: Prive Floral

Aug 04 2011

This week we welcomed back Tina Dusterhoft of Prive Floral as Guest Designer of our Inspiration Area. Her talents in floral design and decor, coupled with Marquee’s inventory transformed our Inspiration Area into a beautiful shabby chic setting with vintage flair.

We’ll let Tina describe her inspiration for you.

“My inspiration started with the vintage shutters that I’ve been wanting to use. I always envisioned them over a head table with lots of candles hanging from them. So that inspired somewhat of a natural vintage vineyard feel. I used aged terra cotta pots in wire baskets and weathered boxes with roses, silver brunia, antique spray roses, olive leaf, bay laurel and clementines to give the floral a vintage feel. I also pulled pretty greens from my yard which is always fun! I found some beautiful twill two tone ribbon in natural and grey shades and that kind of inspired the rest of the look – the burlap runner, bistro chairs and the wood grain card stock for the menus and name cards.”

“From Marquee we used pipe and drape with linen and muslin drapes to give the area a warm cozy feel. We added a little modernity to it by using the long King’s Table with the repeating floral and candle pattern – always a beautiful look! We also dropped a vintage iron chandelier over the 48 inch round – setting it close in to the table and draped it with beautiful bay laurel. Overall the look was soft and romantic and very inviting!”

We agree! Thanks so much Tina for another marvelous job!

Marquee’s Southern Living Inspiration

Jul 15 2011

This month we did not have a guest designer to transform our Inspiration Area. The task landed squarely on my shoulders. Thankfully I have a subscription to Southern Living magazine.
For the past two years my mother-in-law June has given me a subscription as a gift and I love it! I have read lovely articles about transformed gardens, completely rebuilt old homes filled with antique treasures found on windy Southern roads and every recipe from fried green tomatoes to homemade ice cream. I enjoy every article and every photo.
When the June issue arrived I was immediately drawn to an article titled The Ultimate Backyard Pizza Party. Done and done. Tell me everything. On page 94 I found the perfect southern host in Danielle Rollins from Atlanta. The article states she is an avid gardener and entertainer. I am neither, however I found an instant connection with the décor! Her vision was pizza party chic and the party was a surprise birthday party for her husband. I love pizza party chic. What a great theme. Having the Marquee inventory at my fingertips made my transformation all the more fun.

I started with the classic black and white checkered tablecloth. I don’t think I had many believers when the first thing that I pulled out was this overlooked table cloth, but when I added two new high back banquettes covered in black with white piping and four black chiavari chairs to a 48” square table the transformation to pizza party chic had begun. I stuck to photos in Southern Living for place card design and centerpiece inspiration. I added two more tables, a tall cocktail table and a 48” round table with crisp hemstitch toppers. I also added a tall white communal table with black chiavari bar stools and hung a few silver lanterns over the main table. The Ultimate Backyard Pizza Party came to life in the Marquee inspiration area with the help of the June issue of Southern Living magazine.

We’re looking forward to guest designers Prive Floral in August and CLINK in September. If you are interested in showcasing your design skills at Marquee please contact Tory at tory@marqueerents.com.

-Rachel
